Hey Folks,

Anyone ever consider having their bolt carrier or bolt carrier group NP3'ed?  Or better yet, has anyone had it done?  Let me know what you think.

Thanks In advance

I advised a good friend to do this and it's been nothing but a pure pleasure for him.  Easy to clean and very little maintenance required overall.

Just seems to make everything run happier.  So after you fit your bolt & carrier to the receiver, send it off.

Here are some quick pics of my super-slippery Bushy BCG that was NP3'd by Robar:

How does that impact the Chrome lined inside of the carrier?

I can't see any reason to do this.  I don't think it would hurt anything, but I don't see an upside.  That hard part to clean on the carrier is already hard chromed.

+1

most if not all of the carbon build up on my bolt carrier is on the inside... the carbon on the outside of my standard BCG wipes right off with a rag and some CLP...

The only part of the BCG that is "difficult" to clean is the carbon buildup on the back of the bolt. I have been advised that it dosent make a difference, but the Marine in me can't help but scrape it every time I clean.

I too must scrape every possible bit of it out.  I can't stand it being in there.

The back of the bolt is easy.  Just take a steel brush and wear it out.  the inside of the carrier is the test of patience!

i just used the .45 caliber brush i use for my FAL gas tube to break up any really tough carbon inside the bolt carrier... then use some hoppes 9 or other solvent... non-chlorinated brake parts cleaner if it's really bad...

Here's my thread on it from October, it might be of interest to you.

The chamber brush works great for the bolt carrier bore. That is all I have ever used. That and the GP brush.

I've thought about it as I have read some good things about it but what I don't like is the chrome on the inside of the carrier has to be removed and the NP3 is not as hard as chrome so it will not wear as well as HC does.

NP3'ing the bolt may not be a good idea either because of it's slickness, it could cause extraction issues with the extractor slipping off of the case rim.

Is the inside of carrier chromium lined or just not parkerized?

When I was issued a rifle rather than having to go buy one I found the best way to scrape Carbon was with a Saw Cleaning tool I'd filched from somewhere.
