Sorry if this has been discussued before.  I used the search function and did not find anything.

I was in my local gun shop looing at AR's yesterday.  I've been thinking of getting a 20 inch rifle or a 9mm carbine.  The Bushmaster rifles I looked at all had nice flat, grey looking lowers, but the uppers all looked like they were painted glossy black.  The uppers and lowers did not match at all.

I was very dissapointed because I have a Bushmaster M-4gery that I bought 3 or 4 years ago that is very well finished. The upper and lower both have the nice flat grey finish and MATCH.  If I can't find better looking Bushmasters I may have to consider another brand.

Can anyone offer me any insight as to why I'm seeing this and if I can hope to find better looking Bushmasters?

Might be the upper has more oil on it.

Couldnt tell you. I just require functionability out of my rifles. But I can say I have seen lots of mismatched Colts in the past, but they still ran great.

I've been ordering allot of Bushmaster lately for my customers and I haven't noticed  anything like that.  As a matter of fact I just order a patrolman for myself for Christmas and  didn't notice what you are talking about.  Must be oil.

This is not common. Most that I have seen look very nice. No mismatch or anything. This had to be oil, like was said before or it is a build and it got mismatched that way.

I would ask the shop to wipe a bit of oil on it and see if that helps it. A good shop should have no real problem doing that for you. If its the wrong type of shop they may take you in back and oil you down.

Also look the rifle over and make sure it has all the Bushy markings on it. Go in the Bushy forum in the Industry section there is a thred "did I get took" or somthing like that. In that thred it list how to tell if its a true Bushy. You can also goto the Main company web site and they have the info there. You can also get the ser# off the rifle and on the main company site they have a place to enter the # then they will get back to you with info on that very rifle.

If its a real Bushy and the color problem is still there after a oil wipe talk the shop down and then send it to get some sort of Dura coat or what ever coat you like put on it.

Thanks for the input guys.  I'm glad to hear that you all have had good luck with current Bushmasters.  I handled the rifles in question and looked real close at the uppers.  I do not think it is an oil issue but will look again next time.  Could be non Bushmaster uppers?

Thanks!

Two of my Bushies are like that, although they are the same color the lower is more matte than the upper.  If they are wiped down with oil you can no longer tell, but cleaned with solvent and dried out the difference is there.  I noticed it because I notice things, but I don't let it bother me.
