How do you know if your carrier keys are staked properly? I know there have been people on here before saying there's were improperly staked so I would like to know how to tell. And if they are staked wrong what are the negatives of this and how do you correctly stake them? Thanks for the help...Pics would also be helpful if any of you have them. I am more of a see it and do it type. Thanks again... |

It's a fair question. It's pretty obvious when you see a really good staking job, that's not the problem. But I do wonder how often someone posts a pic of a "poor" staking job, whether or not it's truly poor. Is there a standard for amount of torque that's needed to overcome a staking job? That could be one way to test if the stakes are sufficient. Rather than just doing a simple visual and declaring pass/fail it would be good if there were an objective, measurable satndard. Failing one, the best advice would be to send it off to a good smith who knows what the heck he's doing and is certain to put a good, no BS staking job on your carrier. |

aimpoint clone day is my favorite. i wonder if one of the site dealers or someone with some spare time would be willing to do the torque test... take a Colt, CMT, LMT, Denny's, Bushmaster, etc and see how much torque it takes to break the gas key screws loose... |
