I have been tinkering around with the idea of getting a CQB setup with a 14.5" bbl with a permanent FS, and finally decided to get on the ball and commit to an SBR. That being said, I have quite a few questions about How to configure my upper (which I will order from CMMG). These are: 1) Barrel length I have read that uppers with 11.5" barrels tend to be more reliable than 10.3" versions. Is there any truth to this? What length should I go with? I should also say that I plan on using a Noveske FH. 2) FF Forearm I have been looking hard at the Samson CAR forearm with the extended lower rail for this build, bit in looking at the pictures of SBR builds on the forum noticed that not many use Samson. Is there a reason for this? Just personal preference? If anyone has any other additional tips for building an SBR that would also be appreciated. |
I would like to see #1 awnsered also. |

Please excuse my hopefully minor hijack of this question--can you detail the manufactuer and model for the parts that you installed? Such as for the flip up front sight, the gas block, the stock, optics, and flash hider. Because of the barrel length, your's is a NFA? It would take a 5" extension to be non-NFA? |
here's what i gather from his pic Ace stock Troy front and rear BUIS Aimpoint...m3 or ml3??? Larue cantilever mount KX3 flash hider (noveske) |
My answers in red. |

upper built by a competent builder using good parts will function just fine.
