| I saw an upper for sale with a barrel marked SAM 5.56 forward of the front sight base, and it had a ring machined into the barrel within an inch of the end. The barrel end was tapered like a funnel slightly to the crown. It had a float sleave on it, so I couldn't get any other markings from the barrel further down. There was an S cast into the receiver in teh carry handle area. Unfortunately, I couldn't get any pics. Any idea on ID? |

I'll bet it was actually stamped SUM 5.56 That's Olympics marking for their Stainless Ultra Match. The ring at the muzzle should have been 1/4" back from the muzzle and 1/4" wide. It would also be about 0.050" deep. The ring is there to hold a setscrew-attached muzzle device. Was the barrel black or silver? |
| Silver barrel. Are these decent barrels? On their site, they do not give any detailed information on these barrels. They describe their Ultramatch barrels as having a .223 chamber, not a 5.56 chamber. I am assuming that this is a post-ban barrel and that the norm now is barrels threaded. Is the barrel twist stamped under the float sleeve somewhere? |
