A friend want to put a McCormick drop in trigger in his Colt Lightweight Sporter
At the back of the trigger area in his lower receiver there is a block (for lack of a better word) with COLT stamped in the top
I have nothing like this in my receivers so my question is Can/ should this be taken out and if yes, how?
Ther is what appears to be a pin on the right side of the receiver that holds this block in place but it doesn't go all the way through to the other side. I was looking at the Numrich site at a diagram, The block is there but no part number assigned to it making me think its part of the receiver itself. Of course, there is no way to drop the trigger in while the block is in place.
Also, the pin on the side does not appear to be springloaded as I wasn't able to push it in. (I didn't really lay into it for fear of scratching/damaging the receiver)

So
Can this drop in trigger be used or is my friend SOL?
Thanks for your responses

I'm pretty sure that the triggers specifically say that they cannot be used in blocked Colt lowers.

However it is possible to unblock them. But someone who knows exactly what is involved should be along shortly.

ETA Try searching for sear block removal or Colt sear block.

Norrell charges $125.00 to do it.

Quarterbore's site has a how to thread. It's a repost of a thread from AR15 that is now archived.

Welcome to Colt's world. This is just one of the "improvements" they made over the years to make the children safer.

What's it supposed to be blocking, a sear?

There are a few different variations of the block, some are easier to deal with then others.

Mill that sucker out, and put in any trigger group you'd like. But be careful, you could end up with a big hole in the upper right side of the receiver where the sear block pin resides.

If you mill it out, it won't be Mil-Spec anymore!

LOL
