My understanding is that the majority of lower receivers are manufactured by only a few companies.  If that is the case, what is the reason that people rant and rave about a lower from company 'A' versus one from company 'B' since chances are they both came from the same manufacturer

It usually amounts to a bunch of second-hand information and internet rumors.

As to why some people yell and scream about it, I don't know. Maybe it makes some feel knowledgeable.

COLT is the only good one.

many of the major brands subcontract work out.

you could (potentially) buy a lower from RRA, a lower from Bushy, and a lower from Colt, and they all would have come out of CMT's factory.

you could also buy the same hand have them come from different places.

but, regardless of what others have already said, the answer is yes. the big-namers DO subcontract, and many of the subcontractors make parts for more then one manufacturer.

Often because on someone's first build, they order 'brand X' stripped lower, and something was minorly outta spec, so they start posting how 'brand X' is the worst lower, yada yada, rather than saying "the brand X i used as a little rough on the fit...nothing 5 mins with a Dremel/file didn't fix.
