I was wondering how much wieght savings I would have getting my middy HBAR turned down to government profile. I just got my rifle done and it seems a little heavy in the front end.

Thanks!

1 pound for a 20" Hbar turned down to government profile.

Every pound counts when your holding it out at arms length!

Ain't that the truth! I love my Colt HBAR but I'd sure hate to have to keep that thing pointed all day.

A middy would be a little less reduction since the HBAR part under the HGs is shorter, but it'll be more than the 1/2 lb an M4 loses off a shorty HBAR.

I had my middy turned from HBAR to govt profile and I like it a lot better.  Only went down to about ~.70" under the HGs because the 'smith was worried about heat in a SS bbl.  IIRC M4s & A2s are thinner than that, so if your bbl is chromoly you could save a little more.

ETA: Unfortunately I was not able to get accurate before/after weights for mine.  According to a couple of fish scales I was able to borrow the upper weighs ~4-4.25lbs w/o sights (normal FSB, normal HGs, nothing the flattop).

If you've carried both for a day you would think differently.

It is 1 pount out of just over 8.4 (HBAR versus 7.4 gvmnt) or close to 12%
