the barrel profile.. one is a M4 type and the other is a heavy barrel

barrel profile as far as i can tell
the M4 is a government profile barrel with the M203 cuts.

The first one has a standard profile. The second one has an M4 profile. The first one is a little heavier. Difference in function, most likely zero. If you need to attach an M203 to the first one, you can't. That's about it.
