How much of a difference does a chrome lined barrel make verus non-lined as far as accuracy/cleaning etc.  I'm buying a RRA Entry Tactical next week and the dealer only has non-lined models in stock and said that it could take about 6 months to get a chrome lined barrel from RRA.

chrome lineing has a affect on accuracy, how much of an effect is minute. bullet quality is far more important to accuracy than the chrome lineing. if you are getting an entry tactical rifle, get the chrome lined barrel as it will be more resistant to rust and easier to clean.
if this was for a 24"+ barrel i would say forgo the option.
RRA is really 6 months behind?
i would say, buy the upper and lower seperate ion gunbroker or similar online auctions and then you will have the rifle much much sooner

You barely need to clean a chrome lined barrel. The same cannot be said for non-chromed barrels. Unless you are going to be shooting from a bench I really doubt you'll care about or notice the difference in accuracy.

i got my RRA without a chrome lined barrel, I  had to clean it after every time I shot it. I have since bought a chrome lined barrel and hardly ever clean it. And there hasn't been a problem yet.

ETA: If you don't want to wait for the one with a chrome lined barrel, you can do what I did. Take the barrel off and sell it, then buy another RRA barrel from ADCO.

Wait for a RRA with chrome line barrel is about 6 weeks not months.

Not quite...I ordered one on August 15th and was told it would be from 90 to 120 days before I receive it.  Those words came directly from an e-mail response to me from the folks  at RRA.

I would bet that ADCO or LegalTransfers could get the barrel quicker and may possibly have one in stock.  They appear to have a bit of an "in" at RRA!

OK, I've only ever used chrome lined barrels.  How much more of a pain in the ass is it to clean stainless steel barrels in comparison?

The Air Force made me clean their chrome-lined barrels every time they let me fire one of their M-16s.  Cleaning ain't bad, especially when the barrel is chrome lined, but there's less buildup as well because the lining is apparently "smoother" or "slicker" than unlined barrels are.

chrome lined accuracy degregation is NOT noticed by most shooters--if you want a accurate build, go w/ a quality, match SS bbl imo

CL is noticibly easier to clean, more resistant to crud/corrosion, longer bbl life (almost twice the amt)

If you are shooting fully auto or blasting away it might make a difference in barrel life but I doubt you will notice it. I had hunting rifles for years that were never chromed lined and didn't have a problem cleaning them. Just use a good copper solvent every so often. I currently have pruchased 4 AR's since February. Two are chromed lined, one (varminte) is not and the other an RRA stainless steel. I don't notice that much difference in the cleaning. Shooting them from a bench the non chromed appear more accurate.

The entire thread was filled with facts.  You find a post you agree with and say that that's all the facts.  If you're not going chrome, go stainless.

Let your chamber rust and pit up one time ..And you will see why the Military got smart and went to chrome lined chambers and barrels. Get chromelined .. and don't look back. Like already stated if you was getting a target 24" barrel is one thing .. a tactical rifle is something else. IMO WarDawg   Congrads and good luck. Try ADCO.I did. got it in 2 weeks... WD

I'll never buy a barrel with a non-chrome lined bore and chamber.

Odd.  Mine was ordered on Aug 24th through Pete and he said "a number of weeks, not months" because they were caught up, which also seemed confirmed by RRA when I called them to ask what the turnaround time would be for an RRA Entry Tac w/ chrome line ("About 4 weeks.").

Hmm.

Just to verify, a chrome-line Entry Tactical will take a couple/few weeks right now, not "6 months".

Whew.  Thanks for that Steve, was worried I would get my BS before I got my AR

If all the opinions being thrown around here were correct, the several non-chrome plated, chrome moly barrels I have would be rusted shut by now.

If a civilian (and that includes cops) NEED a chrome plated barrel to keep it from rusting, then he or she needs to get off his ass and clean/oil the bore.  It takes five minutes to do a field expedient cleaning and oiling that will keep a C-M barrel rust free.  15 if you want to leave it spotless.

As the anti's say, we don't NEED our AR's.  There is no point in purposely buying a barrel that is harder to clean and that will wear out faster.

The advantages of chrome lining weigh heaviliy in favor of it with only a slight decrease in accuracy which will not be missed in a battle carbine.
