I am concerned about the amount of tension I am putting on the barrel of my Colt HBAR when I sling up. Would it be worthwhile to free float it?

I also want to keep the look of the standard A2 handguards, i.e. no rails. Who makes a free float system that fits this description?

I have read the "how to" threads on the Build it Yourself page, so doing it myself wouldn't be a problem.

Thanks! That's exactly what I was looking for.

I agree, I think that they are nice looking.  The Bushy, RRA, and many other National Match ARs come with the FF front handguards.

Does anyone know how much weight they add?

Thank you.

Do they look any different than standard hand guards that aren't free-floating?

They add maybe .75 pound to the weight and the only difference in appearance to a stock A2 is the sling swivel is silver soldered/welded to the handgaurd cap.

DPMS and Bushmaster sell DCM legal free float handguards that look just like normal handguards. Basically a plain metal tube with modified standard handguards on top. Kind of heavy though, Bushmaster said they added about 2 pounds to the weight of the rifle.
