Hey guys.

I'm looking for a budget case for my AR.  Nothing fancy and definitely nothing tacticool.  I'd like someone to think it could be a guitar or whatever.

I'm thinking hard side, but wouldn't mind a soft one if it worked.  I'm mostly just looking for something to get it from the house to the car without freaking out the neighbors.

Pluses would be space for mags and supplies, and lockability.

Thanks a lot.

I have the Bushmaster "hard" plastic case.  It's really not  secure, but it will definitely protect your rifle during transport in the car etc.  You can lock it,  but you need three padlocks.  It's flexible enough that if you lock it at just one corner or the other you can bend the lid and get in.   You could also cut it open with a heavy knife I bet. But for casual storage and transport it's pretty good for $20-30.

I have heard that case is good. It comes in black also.

Thanks guys, those are great.  I didn't realize Bushmaster had them.  That hard case is pretty much what I was thinking of.  But I do like the Elite Tactical with the Molle bags.  "Tactical, yet contemporary"

You mean something like a Guitar case?

Like this one ($20 from Walmart)?

Its a 30 actually, 26 is too short...
But anyway,
Ive been looking in every lowes, home depot, sears, and ace for a year, and have still not found anyone who makes a 30inch tool box....

Here is the link to the Maryland AR15 Shooter's Site article on the Tool Box project.  They use the 26 inch box for a carbine.  There is a link at the bottom for the 30 inch project.

Here are some 30 inch tool boxes.  A bit pricey, but large enough.

Nope (never saw the movie) I got it from John Farnam (and it was he who recommended this particular Walmart case).

No it's 26" you have to break the carbine down into 2 pieces.  You only need the 30" if you have an SPR or 20"

Lowes sells one.  It's not always in the stores but they can order it for you, or you can go to their website (You used to be able to order it directly from there).

Now if you're looking for a 30" case that can hold a 16" carbine with a telestock, then check out the Tennis Racket cases:

It will hold a telestocked carbine with a 14.5" barrel + FS (providing it's not the AK brake) or a 16" carbine with no FS.  The telestock needs to be fully collapsed.

Now I'll point out very few tennis racket cases are long enough to hold a carbine.  I got the above Dunlop case online for around $17.  There is a Nike case that is a bit larger (and wider) that goes for $40.

You guys are right actually, you can use a 26 for the carbine...

The thirty is what Im looking for, and with no luck, I have found alot of 26 and 28 inch tool boxes but they all has indentations that reduce the actual interior of the box..Making it more like  22 or 23...

I went with the eagle brand cases for my 3 ars, and added my own cutout foam for more protection...

Best Deal Out There!

I have one of the discrete 42" cases.  One or Two rifles depending on type (one M4 and one underfolding AK), also one pistol, 3 rifle mags and a shitload of pistol mags.  It has padded backpack straps so you can wear it like a backpack.

Very well made, Its a hell of a deal for $40 bucks!

Get a cheap baseball bat case at walmart. If you get one that has a glove space you can store mags in there.  I saw a beat up old case laying in the back of my friends truck for a few months-never gave it a though. Since it was beat to hell I dont think anybody would steal it. To my surprise, one day he pulled out a AR, 16" barrel and car stock. I have one in case I need to transport in urban areas.
