Has anybody ever modified the large pin hole receiver on a Colt  in order to make it campatible with all uppers?

Can it be done?
I know there is an offset pin available  but all consulted tell me its a clumsey fix.
What about filling & redrilling the lower receiver????

Thanks

I used the off set pin for a large hole lower, with m4 upper, works fine for me.

Thx,

what about the "detent spring & retainer" ? Do you have to have tension against the offset pin as well?

Exactly what I did w/my SP1

The offset inserts are made by DPMS and only cost a couple of bucks. They're small enouigh on the outside to allow you to coat them w/an epoxy putty and slide them in. They're long enough to either fit a big hole upper, or trim them for the holes on a lower.

If the lower is a total smooth side, like mine, you can use either the KNS or DPMS front pins, which are held in w/spring loaded balls on the left side of the pin.  My experience is that the KNS version is a bit more secure in retention, but the DPMS looks more "original".

Thanks for the pix, XM177. I can't post pics right now, since I don't own a digital camera; and had been wanting to show what I've done.  Will probably refer folks to yours.

I guess I should have been more specific when I posted the pic. That is not mine, it is a service proved by C2 M60JOE.

He machines a custom insert, then pins it from the bottom.

Oh yeah. now I see the pin holes.  Well, if you've got the bucks that might be a better way to go; but so far my epoxied in sleeves are holding up just fine, for a grand total expense of about $6.
