I built that long awaited M4 type semi-auto...took my time..read this forum late into many evenings and bought what I believe were some of the best parts for the build. The heart of my new rifle is the Global Tactical lower receiver from Denny's..I also ordered the M4 stock and CMT LPK from him. Another payday and I managed the carrier group, and M4 handguards from Bravo Co. following the next payday, I snuck past my family the funds to order the BCM M4 upper assy. and the charging handle and I ordered a Handle assy. from Stag Arms. In addition I got the Sling attachment in place of the standard buttplate piece and the single point sling. I ordered magazines from 44-mag and C-products. All top of the line and way more than I shoulda spent but I put a premium on a fine weapon. All together and nothing but JAMS,JAMS,JAMS. several troubleshooting forum posts and I finally emailed Denny about the lower and explained the problem I'm having. Now you gotta admit it takes one hell of a guy to send the reply...Send to me, I'll figure it out! Now what kind of rep is that? I have sent my rifle to Denny and am now anxiously waiting for the fix and for his prognosis of the problem. I spoke to him a few weeks ago and he's a busy guy so I want to express my thanks to Denny here and point out to all members what fine dealers we have on this forum and my intent to get a team membership as soon as I get caught up from this damned rifle expense!...reports to follow...

I would like to add that I would appreciate your input as I was at my wits end as well as the end of my limited smithing abilities...Denny's offer was quite generous though I feel a bit goofy having to call out the troops for help. Hopefully this is not the rule regarding a home built rifle as I would like to try this again in a different pattern.

What kind of input are you looking for?  It sounds like you built quite the franken-gun and that this is possibly your first time out with an AR-type rifle.  There are a lot of things that could have been wrong.  Everything from improper to headspace to loose carrier keys to problematic extractor.

You bought a lot of good parts, but it doesn't seem like you fully understood how to put them together.  Before trying to build it yourself, I would suggest that you maybe buy a complete upper and a complete lower from a reputable manufacturer and just slap them together.  Or, better yet, buy a complete rifle.  The tier 1 manufacturers (Colt, LMT, CMT/Stag, RRA, Bushmaster) test fire their weapons before shipping them to make sure everything is kosher.  Sometimes a stinker sneaks out of the factory, but shit happens and they will replace or fix it.

Buying a complete lower and upper or a factory gun is a much better way to familiarize yourself with the basics of the weapon (cleaning, stripping, etc.).  Then, after you have a good understanding of the platform, you can attempt your own build.  A lot of guys here will say that parts kits are cheaper (and they generally are), but in the end, you are taking a chance that you could screw it up and have to pay someone big bucks to fix it.

Ouch...Frankenrifle...mostly CMT...first time no...built several back in the 80's though it has been several years since I owned an AR. As for understanding function, I've gone through everything, springs, headspace, extractor, etc. etc. no stone has been left unturned...could be the forest for the trees syndrom but I suspect out of spec component. Several mags and types of ammo and still the same problem. A Simple failure to completely strip the round from the magazine and chamber approx. every 3rd round with the last ten or so feeding fairly consistently. Funny but a slap to the bottom of the mag will allow the carrier to continue home 70% of the time...All the other times requires a pull and release to chamber. I've been over this in the troubleshooting forum and had to endure the CLP sales pitch over and over. Time came to return the rifle to source for professional opinion. I don't really expect an answer perhaps mabey some similar experiences and resolutions would be appreciated.
