I have been looking for info on storing loaded mags. If I store my loaded mags long term will it cause damage to the Mags? For example: If I had my mag laoded and stored in my safe for ( let's say 1 year) will the mag be reliable? Do I have to worry about the spring being compressed for such a long period of time? Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Should not be a problem.  I store all my mags loaded.  Springs wear out from use, not compression.

If anything does happen, springs are cheap as hell to replace, so knock yourself out.

If the magazines stay dry, they will work much longer than you will!

This should get tacked, because I swear it gets asked once a week.  Hopefully the hive mind is right about this one, because I store all my mags loaded.

springs only wear out due to sever overcompression or more commonly, the compression and decompression (up and down from normal use) over time

if it stays compressed or not, it will last

All your mags Should be fully loaded and ready to go at all times. In case of zombies. While your loading your mags which should have already been loaded and ready, a zombie will eat your brain.

Any difference in advice when it comes to CS springs vs Standard springs? Either way, keep em loaded and ready right?

There are lots of posts that should be tacked.

I've got a ton loaded and stored.

It already is. It's in the ammo oracle.

It wouldn't matter if you tacked it - people don't read the tacked threads anyway before they post.  It's easier to start a new thread.  That's the way it has always been on every online board I have ever visited.

Here, everyone wants to know:
Which should I get 16" or 20"?
Should I check my headspace?
Which manufacturer is the best?
Why is the AR better than the AK?
What twist rate should I get?
Which ammo is the best bang for the buck?
Is X namebrand any good?
How do I get my barrel threaded for a FH?
Is 6.8 SPC better than 6.5 Grendel?
What are the weights of the different buffers (CAR, H, H2, 9mm, etc.)?

I've only been here a short while, and I've seen those same questions 100 times or more.  No amount of stickying or archiving would make the posts go away - I've tried it as a mod at other forums.  People just won't research BEFORE they ask.  If it's not on the first two pages and phrased exactly like they want to ask it, they never notice it has been asked already.  Plus, they want to tell us about what they think, so they may just start a new thread with a leading question just to get some attention.

As for the loaded mags question - first time I've seen this one, but I'm an ARFCOM noob.    I keep all of my mags loaded at all times, just in case of zombie invasion.

Your life is worth more than $2 magazine springs.

When trouble comes calling, it might not RSVP beforehand.

Either type will last a long time.  CS will take an initial set, but not will not take an additional set on subsequent load/unload cycles.

Don't worry about posting a question that has already been asked.  If you didn't, some of these pissy pants wouldn't have any thing to bitch about.  If it bothers them so much then why did they even click on your post in the first place AND THEN take the time to reply back like a pissed off five year old.  Some people.

Don't sweat it...it's only the Internet.  I'm sure the same question will crop up again soon enough.

I've asked all the noob questions already in the past few months.  Nobody yelled at me.  If they do, it's the internet - most of these posters are about 14 years old.  Just keep that in mind, and don't sweat it.  There are quite a few "mall ninjas" on here, and they are usually the ones who get all riled up easily.

An unloaded magazine is useless. When the SHTF, you won't have time to load them. As already posted, storing them loaded won't hurt them.

I read an article recently in one of the many gun mags that I buy and it covered a rare find.  They found an old WWII 1911 and Three fully loaded mags and a box of old 45 ACP ammo in an estate sale. They proceeded to test the firearm (with newer non corrosive ammo) it worked fine.  The ammo itself, only had two misfires, not bad with 45 year old ammo and it grouped fine. The mags themselves worked flawlessy.  Both with the stored ammo that was loaded into them all those years ago and afterwards after they reloaded the mags and blasted away.  The mags will last years and years.  I will concur that that if you don't leave at least 8 or 10 of your AR15 mags loaded and in your ammo can or in your tac vest, when the crap hits the fan you will be sorry. Read the story in the NRA publication First Freedom about how one man and his wife evacuated from the floods caused by Katrina.  He really understood the meaning of the second amendment after his and his wife's ordeal.

I keep all of my mags loaded except for the select group of mags I use for competition...those mags get to rest between matches.
