Whats wrong with ASA rifles, is there a quality issue?

As far as I know, ASA has only ever made semi-auto AR15-type guns.

I guess the guns are OK, but the guy that runs/ran the company is a real asshole.

Maybe others can chime in.

I bought one from them several years back. I had a couple problems, but I took it back to them and they fixed it in a couple of days and it's been perfect ever since.

Your rifle has an ASA lower receiver.
That is all

I have 4 of their lowers.  Excellent quality!  I also have a bunch of their small parts, never had a problem with them either.  I do have one of their barrels.  It has a tight chamber. but they told that when I bought it, so I can't complain.

The above posts notwithstanding, they were a bottom feeder and a lot of what they sold was substandard crap sold by an owner who'd yell at and threaten anybody who brought a weapon back and complained.  Some people got OK stuff but -many- others didn't.  Many years ago I bought some hadnguards and small parts from them.  The handguards were cheap feeling and brittle and the other stuff was poorly anodized and reminded me of Leapers Chinese junk.  I simply decided not to buy from them anymore.

That was around the time I was first getting onto these forums and after that I started seeing posts talking about them and was glad I didn't waste any more money with them.

The only thing I know of that would be worth having from them is some of the lowers that were made by LMT and are top quality.  Everything else is dog shit.  They are not in business any more and there's a good reason for it.

Mark was that meant for me?
Because as you correctly stated I know my lower is ASA but don't know what uppers Matt uses. I expect that depends on his stock/suppliers.

Autually, it was meant for Bodie (although the same could be said for yours too, and all the others with ASA lowers.)
Uppers are from LAR industries, so nothing wrong with them. Barrels are Walther.

Bodie has had some chamber issues and in a recent thread, he was asking for advice so I IM'ed him offering to fix the problem but never got a response

Some company posted here last week that they bought the rights to the name.

I bought one as a beater rifle and hated it. The finish flaked off the flat top rails and
the thing never ran consistantly.

I picked up a ASA 9mm upper and mag block cheap. I have been using it for the last couple years. Its to the point know that I had the barrel cut down and added a flat top upper. 5000+ rounds and have not had any trouble with it.
