I went into my local dealer this past week just to look around since I ran into some monry, and I am considering purchasing a Bushmaster M4.  I live in New Jersey, so it has to be in post-ban configuration which is bothersom.  I have wanted to purcahse one ever since I fired one at the range last year.

My question/Comment is this:  The rifle seemed very small short.  I remeber my friends being significantly longer than the one I was looking at in the shop, and it was almost a turn off for me.  After holding the one in the shop, I am considerinf just orering the lower reciever from my FFL and piecing the upper reciver togehter myself.

What are your comments and/or thoughts on this?  Feedback is greatly appreciated.

Are you sure your friend's was a carbine and not a rifle (several inches difference in barrel and stock)?

That is possible.  I did not think of that.  To be honest with you I am not sure.  I have not seen him much since that day.
