| This may seem like an odd question, but I picked up two stripped Bushmaster lowers at the shop, and after closer inspection I've noticed more than a few machining and engraving differences between the two. One has an L prefix, the other has a BFI prefix on the serial number. Can anyone shed light on this? The one with the BFI prefix appears to be machined a little bit worse than the other. |

BM "L" prefix lowers are made by LAR manufacturing. BM claims they make the "BFI" prefix lowers in house. I find that hard to believe but I haven't seen anything believably to refute it. The rumor use to be that LMT made the "L" prefix lowers but an FBI report about an incident involving an"L" series BM AR corrected that misinformation. As far as the differences you are seeing, form the anecdotal evidence I've read around here, that's just luck of the draw. Many members here have multiple BM lowers. Some have said their "BFI" lowers were milled\finished better then their "L" lowers, some have said they were equal and some, like you, have said the "L" lowers were better. Hope that helps |
