I have a 9mm RRA AR-15 and would like to get the barrel chrome lined, even if I have to buy a new barrel to send out that is fine with me. Does anyone know who offers this service? Thanks Jim |

US Chrome. They have a minimum set up charge that makes chroming an individual barrel a really expensoive affair. Also, your barrel needs to be a rifled with enough relief for the chrome. On size rifling will result in overtight bore. Your plan is not likely to work. Simon |
Back in the late 80's I had a custom IPSC comp gun built with a match barrel. I sent the gun off to have it industrial hard chromed and asked that the barrel be chromed lined. They said NO WAY beacuse of what Simon Tan said,
A chrome bore will be easier to clean but I don't think a 9mm will wear out a bore any day soon. I once read about the top IPSC shooters (Rob Leatham etc) who shoot close to a 100 thousand rounds a year (I know, that's about 270 rounds a day) of ultra hot 38 super at close to 357 Mag. velocities. They stated that their 1911 autos could go for 2 or 3 years with only small parts replaements. The barrels wearing out was not an issue, slide to frame fit maybe, new style red dot, of course. I would not loose any sleep over it, but you may have other concerns. As always, YMMV Bill |
