A Bayonet works perfectly on a military 14.5 inch M4 barrel, on a civillian 16 inch barrel they have no ability to mount properly.

OH! You must have one with a 16" long barrel... there's your problem!

Get a 14.5" barrel and it'll fit quite nicely!
