I have absolutely ZERO experience with the M16. Is an M16 stripped lower reciever the same thing as an ar15 stripped lower reciever? I'm not talking about the markings on the side... I showed my lauer to an US ARMY Weapons specialist and he says I'd have to drill some holes or grind something away, I wasnt paying that much attention to detain. Could he be right? Or is he somehow mistaken? He's had extensive experience with the M16 but none at all with the AR15. I always thought you just had to replace the trigger group, selector switch, bolt and carrier, etc... All inner parts basically? Any info is appreciated, -Dev |

the AR15 is semi only, the M16 can have burst or full auto the M16 has an extra hole above the safety selector the AR15 has more material inside so that burst/auto components can't fit in it although I think the Bushmaster AR15 inside is milled out the same as an M16 I could be wrong |

Do some more lurking; you'll learn a lot by doing so. The M16 is a military weapon and is capable of selective fire (semiauto and either burst or full auto), while the AR-15 is a commercial designation (starting with Armalite's original model number for the prototype that eventually became the M16). You do NOT want to go around giving people the impression that you have an M16 when you actually have a civilian-legal, no-license-or-permit-needed, legally equivalent to a Mini-14 AR-15. You can get into some "interesting" situations doing that; the ATF is well known for assuming the worst and acting on that assumption. |
