I did alot of saving, scrimping and trading (and a little bit of begging) to take my 'daily driver' M4 from blah to AHHH! I replaced the ARMS SIR (military) with the brand new Daniel Defense RIS 2. It gave me the same monolithic rail capability but is much lighter and 'sleeker'. Further, I replaced the Aimpoint ring mount with a LaRue CCO mount and the ARMS #40 back-up iron sight with the LMT BUIS.

What I like about the make-over: I LOVE the Daniel Defense RIS 2. I can't get over how much it made the gun less weildy and less weight -- this doesn't seem like the same rifle in my hands! I now have solid a platform with twice the real-estate for future goodies. I am convinved that the RIS2 is the most forward thinking rail that I have ever tried; and I have mounted most.

What I don't like about the make-over: I don't like that I won't be able to matcht he color of the rail to the rest of the gun. I LOVE the brown green color of the rail (it is just about perfectly the color of an OD wool sweater) but it is something new that they are playing with at Daniel Defense and I won't have much luck replicating it. Hopefully that will change if other people like this color as much as I do.

Looks terrific Lightfighter!!

so, thats the new DD rail for the 5.56/.223 guns? Was this the one that won a portion of the gov. contract along with ARMS, and KAC (IIRC)?

Sweet.

I don't believe that the RIS II decisions were made final yet, but I could be wrong.

LF-  The difference between the SIR and DD RIS II is night and day.  Balance, weight, width, and overall feel make the DD RIS II the obvious winner in my opinion.

Good looking pics and weapon.

ETA-  I also love the way the DD RIS II installs, it makes it my favorite rail for installation!
