First of all this is not a SS vs. Chrome lined topic, and I don't want it to go there.  Please!

I also know that a Chrome lined bbl will not be as accurate as a SS bbl.  I also know that the bbl I have is more than likely more accurate than I am with irons.

But I'm thinking of putting together an AR for 3 gun competition.  I missed the CMMG 3 gun competition this year, but I won't next year.  I guess what I'm trying to decide is if I should keep the bbl I have or re-bbl with a Match grade bbl.  I have a 1/7, Chrome lined bbl.

I'd more than likely be in the "Tactical Optical" class.  So I'm thinking about putting a scope on my AR.

So my question would be.
What kind of Accuracy are you people getting with your 16", 1/7, Chrome lined bbls?   Scopped or not.  I guess I should add that the ranges would be from 100 to 300 yds.

I'm guessing if it's good enough for our Military then It'll be good enough for me.

Not the greatest question.  A poor quality 16" bbl will not be as accurate as a high quality 16" bbl.  Also what ammo are you going to shoot?  There are plenty of 16" barrels out there that can shoot MOA with the right ammo and shooter.  A longer or shorter barrel will not always more or less accurate.

What you need to do is get a barrel from a vendor/gunsmith that is known for high quality barrels and then you are good to go.  Get a Krieger, WOA, Noveske, or CMMG barrel and be done with it.   Don't cheapout on the barrel or the trigger and you will be happy.

If I where going to buy a new bbl I was thinking WOA from Steve at ADCO.  Either that I was going to give John a call at CMMG.  Maybe Denny, and his "Recon" bbl (a bit pricey if you ask me).

I was really trying to get an idea if I'd need to go that route.  The chrome lined bbl I have is a CMMG mid length.  So that bbl is of good quality.  I'm fairly accurate with it, but I've never competed in a 3 gun match.  I just wanted to know if any 3 gunners out there thought that it would be best to re-bbl to be competative (other than practice).  I only use quality ammo, so I wasn't adding that to the equation.

I guess what I'm asking is. If I'm going to think about competeing; is fairly accurate with my current bbl going to cut it or should I invest in a higher quality bbl.
