After reading the other guys post about the S&W model 15 I had looked at the sights on mine and noticed it was wider on one side than the other. I stood up for the gun as far as the rest of the fit and finish.
WELL I JUST SHOT IT............OR TRIED TO.
The first round jammed in the gun. Took me 5 minutes to get it out as the other round was lodged up against it. I fired the 2nd and 3rd round and same thing happened.  This was with USA white box and not Made in Israel. I switched to the Israeli white box and had a little better luck for about 10 rounds. Then it started doing it some. I finally got so frustrated I had to quit shooting and never did get my EOTEch sighted in properly...which doesn't matter at this point. Luckily I had my Bushmaster Varminter and shot it for awhile using the same ammo and same two (new) magazines as in the Smith. One was a colt the other was a C-products and both were 20 rounders.
At least Smith is sending me a label to Send it Back. I know I wasn't going to pay.

I had a similar issue with mine when I first got it. It would fire and cycle properly but would not strip a new round. Since this is my first AR I also was pissed that it didn't funtion properly. Then I got some help. It was last weekend at the Cherry Creek Park range in Colorado. I met one of the moderators. I can't for the life of me remember his name. He helped me strip it down and lubed the crap out of everything. After that he even helped me sight in my EOtech. After the lube it performed perfectly. His explaination was that being new everything is very tight and the rifle was put together way too dry. You might want to give it a try. I too was thinking of returning it until I got some great help. Hopefully I can figure out who it was who helped me out and thank him properly.

Mine would strip the new round but not properly extract or eject the spent cartridge. The unfired round would jam up against the chamber and the fired casing and I would have to work it for about 5 minutes to get it out. I have to drive about 55 miles one way to shoot now so its a PIA to just run back down there. Also its a game managment range and now ones usually there this time of year.
Those are supposed to be chromed bolt carriers also. I will send it back and while there make them fix the front sight also.

First, most AR's are not broken in till about 500rds. Second, was the bolt properly lubricated and do you try different mags and ammo? Might have had a bad batch of ammo (under pressured).

And yes I tried different mags and ammo. One was new colt and other c-products. I shot winchester white box both USA and Israeli made. UMC, Black Hills and American Eagle. I would doubt if my two bushmaster have many rounds in them since I only have had them two months. They have both shot everything put through it with no hiccups.
All of the ammo and both mags were also used in the Bushmaster varminter I had with me also.
I would be surprised if Smith text fired it. The barrel was almost clean and no brass marks on the case deflector. The first 3 rounds didn't extract and jammed and I had to only load one round for the next few until I got brave enought again. My bushmaster was had a dirty barrel and brass marks on the deflector so I know it was tested.

PS How can you fire 500 rounds when it jams the first three rounds and about 1 out of every 4 or 5 after that. It took me about 5 minutes to cear some of the jams.?

I would try a new extractor spring and plunger.  Seen this turn M-4's that couldn't be trusted to fire more than three rounds into top performers.  Or youcould send it back.  Don't know what your situation is.  Just thinking out loud

Thanks,
I called S&W as soon as I got home. At least they have good customer service and are sending me a label which I ASSUME is pre paid.
