I need help deciding between two AR's. Which one should I buy. NIB Bushmaster 20" A2 No lug and FH. 800.00 Used but only 100 rounds down range. Colt match target competition hbarII 16" A3 No lug and FH. 700.00 |

Of the two I would go with the Colt. Not because I'm a huge Colt fan, but because they're about the same quality and you can spend the extra 100 dollars on ammor and/or mags. That having been said, I would have to opt for the third option and go with 'none of the above'. I would look for something no-ban and maybe made by Rock River or someone else known for high quality and not high prices. If you build our own you can save some money and maybe spend about the same for a new no ban rifle. I will freely admit to being pretty intimidated on my first build, but when I realized how relatively easy it is - and how you dont have to be a rocket surgen to do it right - I was kicking myself for not having done it sooner. -K |

Between the two... Colt. But if you live in a free state then I'd probably go with a no-ban gun. (If you are anything like me, I just can't get over a bare muzzle on an AR, unless it's a target rifle. It just doesn't look right to me). Rock River Arms and Bushmaster are pretty good. |
Sorry to get off topic, but how come everybody on here likes A3's so much? Don't you loose some of the ruggedness when the carry handle (which the sights are on) is held on be screws? If this was used a a SHTF gun wouldn't it be better to have an A@ so you don't have to worry about having the carry handle slam against something and break off or knock off the zero? Back to topic. $700 for a Colt seems like a good deal compare to what I've seen. Of course most of the ones that I've seen are pre-ban. |

Thanks for all the replies. Wow, I guess the vast majority thinks the Colt is the way to go. I forgot to add that I am from NY so I need the post ban features. Not to hijack my own post, but should I try to find a preban lower or complete rifle instead of the two previous mentioned AR's? |
+1. A removable carry handle is a nice feature to have, plus $700 isn't a bad price. Colt may be an evil corporation, but they do make nice rifles....sucks you're stuck with the post-ban features, but it will still be cool. Congrats on your first AR! |
Errr, that's a tough one. honestly that carbine is fine. Having a flash suppressor is nice, but honestly that Colt would be just fine, you don't need a collapsible stock or bayonet lug anyways. I have to admit though that I have a post ban Bushie that is a great gun, but I never shoot it since I purchased several pre-bans. And of course I stuck a collapsible stock that I did not need on my carbine. |

Get a preban! You can get them really cheap now that most of the country doesn't have a ban anymore. Check out the equipment exchange on this site or gunbroker.com for good deals. www.ar15.com/forums/forum.html?b=7&f=21 Here are the serial number ranges to verify preban status: www.ar15.com/content/legal/serialNumberList.html www.mp5.net/info/preban.htm Keep in mind, only the lower receiver has to be preban. You can buy a preban lower and put a brand new upper or any other new parts on it. You don't have to settle for someone else's configuration. Buy a lower and build it exactly the way you want it. |
ppl like A3's b/c there are many more options for optics out there and they're easier to work with in that field....also if you get a rear buis you really have no need for the CH unless you wanna carry your rifle by it....but for the everyday shooter i don't see any need for a CH on a civie gun....and btw...even with the screwed on CH it's still plenty durable to bang against a wall.... on topic: GO WITH THE COLT!! |
