I currently have a 14.5" bbl with a perm attached mini-y comp.  I've been himming and hawing about sending it to ADCO and having a phantom attached instead.  The comp is too loud as well as being neighbor unfriendly when shooting next to someone.  How much difference in recoil/muzzle jump (although there is little from a .223 cartridge)?  Should I just box it up and send it in or do I stick with the mini-y?  I;ve never shot an AR except for my own so I have no idea what to expect.  As far as I know there should be no trouble without it ripping off a few shots and expecting decent accuracy without it.

Its not a big deal, and I think you will find the swap for the Phantom worth your time.

brakes are loud and imo not worth the noise. box it up and ship it to adco.

+1   send that upper to ADCO and get a Phantom installed. You won't regret it.

Unless you are shooting IPSC or SOF the brake is not doing you any favors.

ADCO is the way to go. They changed mine out in no time. Sent it out and got it back in 1 week. The workmanship is second to none.

Do it and you won't look back. You won't miss the gas in the face and the noise. I did mine myself with info from this website.  It's very easy and I have the same or better accuracy since the switch. You will notice a diff. in muzzle jump. The mini-y does of a good job of eliminating jump, but the difference isn't outweighed by the other drawbacks.

I did my own swap. You won't regret it. Send it off or do it yourself, but just do it. I got the new Phantom which has the closed bottom. It won't send up a dust cloud from prone, and it also directs the gasses upward and to the sides which has a brake effect. Much quieter and no more gas in the face of everyone else.
