I'm a little new to the Colt scene, not the AR scene. I was steared away from the Colts in the begining of this habbit I've formed, none the less I think I'm ready to ride the pony! So first question: Which if any of the Colt Lowers are Mil spec? I spoke with a lady at Colt today and she said all since 2000 to current production are. Now I question this a bit because of what she said when I asked about the second question, which I will ask now: Where if any where is selling stripped lowers? I realize they would have to buy the whole gun and break it down. I know there are places that have to do it because some how or another I have a 14.5" socom barrel made by colt! Obviosly someone bought some rifles and stripped them down! When I expressed intrest in buying just the lower you would have thought I committed a felony! OH, NO they lady exclaimed! You would have to get that from one of those illegal chop shops! They are seperating the serial number! Last time I checked the ATF considers just the lower the actual gun when it comes to AR's So how you would be seperating the serial numbers is beyond me? Diclaimer: When I say I'm looking for a lower I mean totally legally, if it is out of state sending it to my FFL! |

The new colt lowers have larger than spec trigger/hammer pins. The old colt lowers have larger than spec pivot pins. The new lowers will work with any mil spec upper. The two places of seen lowers is R Guns (match traget lowers) though I've heard they have a bad reputation. The other place is Specialized Armament Warehouse, and they sell the LEO lowers, that are marked "Law enfocement carbine, AR15A2 Gov't Carbine, AR15A3 Tactical Carbine, and AR15 9mm carbine" At a recent gun show, they were 300 dollars, stripped. I think you have to call them to order, because they aren't on their website. It is alot for a stripped lower, but the Colts are the only ones with the ponies and the AR15 roll marks... |
