| I have 4,000 rounds for my AK. An now I have a AR15. How much ammo should I keep on hand for the both of them. I go to the range when ever I can get a chance to go. I am a Nam Vet that does like to shoot. Thanks for any help. hug.gif |

As long as you have room to store it and strength to move it around so you can select what to take to the range, it's all good. On the other hand, I would try to stay away from having more on hand than you can project shooting over a reasonable amount of time, otherwise you could be in a position where you HAVE to mess with what you have just to get around in a room...It's too much when it's really in the way, even when it's "put away." |
That sounds like a decent guideline to me. There's no such thing as too much, but those numbers are when you're at the level where you can say "I can get by on this", and you've probably got better things to spend the cash on from that point (like more spare parts, non-firearm SHTF gear to add to the collection, or save up for NFA stuff, or whatever). |
Me too. I try to maintain at least 1000 rounds for every caliber I own ( except .357 mag which I don't shoot very often). I don't think you could ever had too much ammo. |

Inventory vs. cash on hand. If you shoot, you can never have enough ammo. That being said, let your supply hover within a range; if you find a deal on quality ammo, buy a bunch, otherwise run it down. For instance, in 5.56 I run two M16s, an AC556 and a few ARs. I like to have anywhere from 5k - 30k rounds on hand. Usually no less than 10k, as running trhu 1k rounds in a day of F/A is a snap. Adjust accordingly. When the IMI M855 was common, I bought a truckload (literally). |
I love you man! Where in MD are you? All us MD arfcommers need to pick a county to consolidate our forces.
