I have a M261 .22 conversion kit in my sons AR. That thing is a blast to shoot! We just came back a few hours ago from shooting, emptied an entire 500 rd box of Winchester Dynapoints!

The M261 simply replaces the standard bolt and carrier. 10 rd mags are inserted into the standard AR mags. They pop up for sale now and again on the E n’ E. Average price range $80-$120.

No, but keep in mind that the gas port will eventually become clogged with lead and must be occasionally blown free by shooting a few 5.56mm through it.

Also different barrel twist rates in conjunction with different bullet weights will effect accuracy. My sons rifle has a 1-9 twist rate which works pretty good with the 40gr Winchester Dynapoints. Lighter bullets tend to open up the groups quite a bit. Some guys keep their eyes open for the 1-12 barrels which they say gives better performance.

With the 1-9 barrel and 40gr Winchester Dynapoints we get ¾” groups on average at 25m. Good enough for my kid to learn on.

You may find more info if you go to the Rimfire and Center Fire section.
