I was going to send it back to Bushmaster, but I have a phobia about sending my guns and or parts off for repair. It that reason alone that has driven me to learn to work on my AR's... Plus after talking to Bushmaster, they acted as though they were not going to take care of it anyway... I have a PRI set screw one on my SPRish rifle and I really like it. IMO, the best Floding sight out there. |
Is it a Bushy? Have you tried some penetrating oil on it? |
this really seems to be a prevailing attitude with them lately. after my issues and trying to work with them on my .22 carbon upper i am done with them. I will still by parts for builds but i will never again buy a complete gun or upper or expect any kind of customer service from them. |
barrell vise penetrating oil big rubber hammer |
yes Bushmaster. I'll try penetrating oil, Kroil ? |
I was really surprised by the Customer Service guy's attitude. I got the gun here in the EE in a trade. I never got around to shooting it until a week ago, when I found that the FSB was canted. So when I called them, I got the-"Are you the original owner, do have the paperwork, how long have you owned it, ect." I just gave up and hung up and then ordered a the PRI from ADCO...I would rather spend $180 with them than with Bushmaster, although I do like the gun... It's kinda sad....I have bought from Bushmaster for over 15 years and I think that they have really slipped in the last few years.... |
Mine was BADLY drilled off center...almost by an 1/8th of a inch... Honestly, I wonder how they did that...

Well I admit that I did not see mine until I got to the range to zero it and ran out of right windage on my ARMS #38. It was only after that did I notice that the front sight was canted. If you have a action block, put the upper in it and put it in a vise and see how the FSB lines up with the rest of the upper. I did that to mine and I could see that it was canted, and badly at that. |
Glad to see I'm not the only one. Once they just talked to me like an idiot when I asked a question before a purchase. I called to see if the metal on my AK74 break (during the ban Now all these QC and other CS problems??? I don't think I'll be getting BM any time soon. Oh yeah, and their stripped lowers are always waayyy over priced. |
| I ordered an upper from legal-transfers w/bushmaster M4 and mine is canted as well. I have enough windage for my 50 yard zero but I'll have to see what happens at 100. I use an aimpoint so I guess it's not a huge deal, still bothers me a little though. I thought I read in the build it yourself section you can remove the barrel and file a little metal away where the barrel post fits into the slot? Is this common practice when this happens? Has anyone else done this? I'm most likely not going to bother if I can still zero, just curious? |
If I were you, I'd contact Pete and send it back to Legal-Transfers. He would, more than likely, stand behind it better than Bushmaster would. As for fixing it, as I understand it it's not and easy fix, unless you drill out the FSB and thread it for set screws. |

Thats discouraging to hear about Bushmaster. I used to hear about how they would take care of people quick. The one time I needed help with something that wasnt even their fault back in 2000, a phone call took care of it all. 5 years later I still hear people have the same canted front sight bases, and now a couple people say they are reluctant to fix it? I hope this isnt going to be the case. Anyhow, I like the PRI as well. I have one on a SPR and am putting one on my AR10. I like it a lot better then the YHM. The GG&G flip up front sight/gas block looks very nice too, but its a shame you have to send them off to GG&G for instal. The only other one I know of iis the KAC one, looks great too, but is (almost) completely unavailable. |
| I found I was having more problems when I was using an upper block to put barrels on than barrel vise blocks. With the upper block I was getting a lot of sight bases to the left of center causing the rear sight to almost max out left to zero. A lot of it stopped when I went bach to using barrel blocks. All I can guess is with the upper stationary the barrel truns some with the nut causing it to push past center. |

I went again with the PRI because of the one on my SPRish rifle....it's solid, ease of installation, if you get the set screw one, and it just plain works. I thought of the YHM, but to me, it just looks "clunky". Now I do like YHM, I have their non-railed free-float tube on my SPRish rifle, but the front sight just didn't do anything for me. I'm to saddened to get the response that I got from Bushmaster. To me, just because I was the second owner-I know why the first one was so eager to trade -that should have not been a factor in a canted FSB that happened at the factory.

Did you try getting back with PK? You might try Bushmaster, hell you might get lucky with them and they will fix it. But more than likely you will have to fix it.... |
Give us a call and we can talk it over. We got one BM barrel lately that was VERY canted and we are sending it back to BM for warrenty work. We'll make it right with you. Brett PK Firearms |
Nicely done...one more vendor for my list...I will have to make the trip to the 1500 in Indy next time and stop by the booth.. |
My gas port was not off center. The hole in the FSB is much larger than the hole in the barrel. My PRI sight lined up like it should be and I test fired it with that same thought. It functioned flawlessly.... |
