What is the best way to mount an Aimpoint on an A2 upper?  Is it too high if mounted on the carry handle.

Is it too far forward if mounted over the forward handguard?

Any pics of Aimpoints on A2's would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

this isn't the ideal way to mount it but it worked out pretty good for me.  It also is not a problem mounting that far forward.

Your best bet is to get a flatop receiver or use a gooseneck mount or a free floated forearm.

A shooting partner of mine has a red dot mounted on something like this:

he seems to like it mounted forward of the carry handle.

he is able to cowitness with the rear sight.  Is it optimum? probably not, but it does work.

While its not the greatest for punching paper, or engaging at distance, it works real nice for CQC.  I'm just not a gooseneck fan.

I have my Aimpoint mounted in front of the carry handle on my Colt AR-15A2 Government Carbine (R6520) using the A.R.M.S.® #51™C A1A2 S.I.R.® System.

I keep telling you, I only have one AR, and I just change it around a lot......

While I didn't like the first gooseneck mount I bought, the one that came with this Aimpoint isn't bad at all. I just got back from coyote hunting with it 2 hours ago. Didn't see any coyotes, but the rifle balanced fine and carried well for the 3 hours I was out.

This gets harder to believe with every offering.

Sell your A2 to upper and use the money to buy a flattop. Even cheaper than buying a goose mount.

If i get a flat top, what is the best mount for the aimpoint so it will co-witness with the front sight?

I like the Larue mounts that cowitness the irons in the lower third. I currently have the Larue cantilever mount, but would buy their new standard mount that has a battery compartment if I was doing it again. After a lot of range time, I have found that I like the aimpoint mounted further back, so the cantilever that puts it over the delta ring is of no use to me now except for the battery storage compartment.

Here's a pic from a few months ago. Like I said, the aimpoint is further back now:
