I had originally posted this in the "Legal" section, but I don't think there is very much traffic on that side, so I'm re-posting here.

Thanks,
Gene

"I have two rifles (mini-14, and a 22) at my brothers house in San Diego. I am stationed in Guam and would like to have my 2 rifles sent here. How can I legally do this? Can he just take them to a local FEDEX or UPS and send them to me? Or do I need to arrange this via a gun dealer both in San Diego and here in Guam? Any ideas would be great.

thanks in advance

Gene"

Not sure if this applies, but FWIW,

When I was in my Mom sent me two rifles my grandad left me, Washington to Georgia. At the time ONLY UPS would move firearms. So she sent them UPS. FFL shouldn't matter as there is no change of ownership. The real questions are:

Are they legal to have in Guam?

Does UPS (or whomever) actually go there?

Would the shipping cost more than 2 rifles are worth? hem.
Good luck, and have a safe tour!

Call UPS and ask them. They will probably want them shipped in locked containers too.

I believe that you are incorrect

FWIW I believe you can mail or ship a firearm to yourself, but you can not have another party mail/sjip it to you without it going through an FFL

If i wa computer literate I would hot link the ATF web sight.  In the states you can mail a fire arm to yourself but I don't know about out of country.

Just a note about Fed EX-  They will get it there on time but...........they delivered my S&W 44 to my nieghbors house because I wasn't home when they came.   I would do some type of signature delivery and insurance to cover any liability you would incur upon yourself.

I could very well be wrong. Plus that was more than 7 years ago, the rules may have changed.

But mom didn't use an FFL/dealer that I know of.

Also, is Guam considered outside the US? It is a US territory, right?

Thanks for all the input.
Yes, Guam is a territory of the U.S.
Yes, it is leagal to own these rifles here (there are lots of full auto weapons on this island, not that they are leagl, the cops just don't seem to be set up to check this sort of thing)

I had called FEDEX before I left San Dog and they said they could not ship weapons to guam. I'll have to try calling UPS. They would be shipped in a locked hard sided gun case.

Thanks for the input guys, much appreciated.

genesmith, maybe if you can't get them shipped someone at the consulate or state department could help you get them there by way of a diplomatic pouch. Just a thought, I know it would take some hoop jumping but....
