Definitely came with the triangular - as long as its a full length - they didn't start using the round handguards until around '84 or so.

Guys, I have a question:  I was thinking about picking up an SP1 upper from CDNN.  Will that fit my RRA lower?  I hope to just bolt it up and shoot iron sights every once in a while.  Thanks.

The uppers being sold by CDNN are NOT SP1 pieces.  I cannot understand why they continue to advertise them as such.

They're M16A1 takeoffs, and that's a good thing.  SP1 front mounting holes are larger than the front holes on any modern lower, ands you have to mess around w/adapters to fit them to a current made lower.  The units CDNN has have standard mounting dimentions, and will drop right on to  any current production lower.

The only "problem" w/ the pieces is that they are finished in a shade a bit lighter than what's current, so you won't get a perfect color match  with a newly made lower. Those folks who are bothered by it often just go ahead and use one of the currently available refinishing products. Most of us just live w/it

As stated they will fit. There the Mil-spec holes because the uppers are true mil-spec.  There Finished in the older Grey finish. Trust me you will not notice the color difference from  any shooting postion.
