i have a new bushmaster m4a2 that i'm going to zero tomorrow.

i was setting up my rear sight for the I.B.Z., and noticed that my rear sight housing is out of square with my carry handle. it is canted to the left about 1/16  of an inch when bottomed out 2 clicks below 8/3.  i can easily turn the sight body to square it up with the carry handle , but it returns to the canted position when released.
i noticed when i rotate the elevation knob all the way up , the sight housing squares itself up with the carry handle edges.

is this situation wrong, and will it effect my zeroing efforts?

if so, is there any detent or set screw i can adjust to square up the sight body with the outside of the carry handle edges?

thanks in adavnce or any suggestions.

Perfectly normal.

My 4 month old A3 14.5" Izzy does the exact same thing.  It looks slightly off, but the gun shoots great.

Vexed,

The rear sight base is spring loaded with a spring and ball bearing tensioning it, that is why it returns to the canted position when you release it. Like the others have told you, its normal.

On match guns, some prefer to correct this by putting a bump of weld on the right side front of the base and dressing it with a file to make the base sit perfectly strait. I have never bothered with this as I feel the eye is to close to the aperture to make a difference.
