Hey folks,
I went shooting yesterday in a little competition with some fellow LEO's. It was RAINING pretty steady all day. We closed up and had a huge BBQ with Duck, Deer, Smoked Pork, and frog legs....And a TON of Cold Beer. Any how, it was a late night, and an early trip home today! I just got in a few minutes ago, and broke out my firearms to clean them. I have big rust spots all over the barrel of my AR. It doesn't matter how hard I scrub, I can not get the rust spots to come off???? Any suggestions? Hindsight, I should have put the beer down and cleaned it when I was done

Thanks,
Sean

My buddies and I went shooting the other day and it was raining the whole time, and HARD.  How do you guys clean underneath Freefloat tubes that are not easily removed?  Spray some type of solvent all over the inside?  On my M4, I just take the HGs or RAS off when it gets rained on, but my Middy is not so simple and I'm worried about it rusting.  Thanks.

I have a LArue12.0 on as well, with the Noveske Krink Flash Hider perm attached. I have soaked the whole upper in FP10 overnight, and will try in get under the free float and scrub away the best I can!

It might be a good idea to coat a barrel with MolyResin or a similar finish that will NOT rust before you go the FF route.

I used a brass brush and standard barrel solvent to clean the rust off my 12 gauge after a rainy hunting trip. worked good, just make sure to oil the whole thing afterwards.

I haven't had external rust issues with any of my civvy AR's, but I always had trouble with issue weapons rusting, especially the front sight base.  A worn out bore brush or brass cleaning brush and some oil or CLP should fix you up.

Now, internally, I had a crappy mystery bolt in an AR once that, after a day in the rain, pitted severely.  The bolt carrier (RRA) was perfectly fine.  Whenever I shoot in the rain (which I do a lot -- Friday I had to pour water out of my AR's when I got back in), I make sure to strip down and clean them ASAP.
