I am new to AR-15 today and was wondering how I get the flap that covers the ejection port down?

Pull back the charging handle and it will pop right open.

Yeah, forgot that part! Take out the magazine and be sure the gun is pointed in a safe direction, check to make sure it's not loaded, etc.

Sometimes I make the mistake of assuming that people know the basics.

You broke it, might as well give it to me!

Like they said-there's a groove in the bolt that pops it open when you pull on the charging handle (or shoot the AR). It is designed to keep gunk out of the AR while you carrying it around.

If you don't have one already, make sure you get yourself a good copy of an owners manual, you can start here for downloadable versions.
