My friend just got a Colt AR-15 that's a few years old.

The top of the barrel says: " C MP 5.56 NATO 1/7 "

Can you tell me anything about these markings? Is this their standard chrome lined 5.56 NATO caliber with a 1/7 twist barrel?

What does the "C MP" mean?

Ok..

I saw the tacked thread by 1GUNRUNNER that showed a barrel with these markings.

I still wonder if this is a desirable or standard barrel. Chrome?

It's a standard Colt chrome lined barrel. Those are the same markings that are on M16A2 and M4 barrels.

What profile is it?

The "profile" is the barrel diameter from chamber to muzzle.

For example, a 20" government profile is light under the handguards and heavier from the front sight base out to the muzzle.

A standard M4 profile is light under the handguards, heavier from the front sight to the muzzle, and has an about 1" long cutout about 1/2 way between the front sight and muzzle.

An HBAR profile is heavy the whole way out, while a light profile is light the whole way out.

This sounds like it.

Thanks..

About 10 inches of barrel under the handguards looks light...then it thickens back up to meet the sight block on out to the birdcage.
