My dealer got a LEO marked Colt 6920 in a couple of days ago for a customer. He got it from Bill Hicks who had special ordered it from Colt. When they were checking it out, they discovered it had been built and shipped with a full auto bolt carrier |
welcome to last month. ![]() Almost all the COLTs have this carrier, its nothing to worry about. ATF doesnt really say one way or the other, the carrier by itself can not make a gun go FA so someone would be hardpressed to get a conviction. |
Wrong. Colt has PC'd their civilian line of rifles near to death, even before it was mandated by the '94 AWB. The M16 carrier is not a big deal. It has been and continues to be legal. The ATF "strongly suggests" that you avoid the use of any full auto rifle components, but there is no law or ruling that states that it is illegal. |
| The ATF was the one that forced Colt to modify the carrier in the first place (to prevent conversion to auto) Colt responded with several changes with the half moon non protected firing pin version as the one that pacified the ATF. So now they're going back to the full auto carrier. Hmmm. Very interesting. |

It is odd, ATF made Colt's use the goofy off set pivot pin. But when others started making them they were allowed to use standard pivot pin dimensions. So after awhile Colt's stopped making them offset. |
Anyone with a full auto bolt carrier should send it me with a check for $129.95 and I will replace it with a non-full auto bolt carrier. IM for address. |
Please make sure to tell that dealer and his customer that this is NOTHING to be panicked about!!!! |
Hey Blackmore, 2004 called........, they want their topic back!!! BFD
|
| Glad they are putting in the proper configuration in myself, as the stupid cut one's beat up the buffer face. All the ones I purchased since the beginning of the year were with the "16" carrier, as long as they were built after jan. Look at it as if it was an added bonus. |

This is a win-win for Colt and the shooting public. [In my best PR voice, hypothetically from Colt] These rifles are clearly marked LEO, therefore, we have no problem incorporating components, through parts commonality, that were previously decided to be unfit for civilian sale by the BATF. If we find unscrupulous dealers that are selling these to the public, then we will no longer distribute to them. Unfortunatley, given the GWOT, that is not our priority at this time--putting our fine rifles in the hands of America's finest is our sole priority. The added convenience of parts commonality helps us carry that objective to fruition. Even if these rifles are ending up in civilian hands, the rifle configurations and components violate no laws and are available similarly configured from myriad manufacturers. |
Tightening chinstrap on my foil helmet---- "Maybe its to be used against the upstanding patriotic gun owning God fearing minutemen patriot (did I say that twice) God fearing Amearican red blooded baseball watchin, Nascar loving American , red blooded , patriotic citizens." |
Here's the original thread: www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=118&t=232771 Be sure to educate the dealer to the fact that it is perfectly LEGAL to have an M16 bolt carrier in an AR-15 rifle. If he tries to say that it is only legal in LEO rifles, explain to him that LEO's are not exempt from NFA anymore than you or I am. |
It is only a well known fact and multi-dupe to ![]() Thanks for the heads up I will guarantee that with nearly 1,000 reads (at the time of this post -885) someone learned something from your topic. |
I'll take two! |
My guess is they were checking it when they received it & logged it in. You need to verify the SN on the gun matches the SN on the box. It's also a good idea to verify the gun is what was ordered & is in the proper condition. |
