A buddy of mine has a NIB Colt 20" HBAR Competition Match with CMP stamped on the barrel above the front sight.  He bought it in 1994.  It has an A2 muzzle break but no bayonet lug.  As of yet, he has not shot it (but really wants to) because he thinks it may be worth more as a collectors item.  I think he should blast away.  My question is:  Is this rifle a "collector's item?"  If so, he is considering selling.  If not, we're going shooting this afternoon.  Any help IDing his AR is appreciated.

Sounds like a run-of-the-mill Colt rifle to me.  Nothing really special there.  Shoot it.

If it has a Fixed Carry Handle it is a MT 6601, if it has a removable carry handle it is a MT6700

Shoot it please. a rifle is useless if it's not shoot. That's like a car that's never driven or a hammer that never drives nails. Shoot away.
