I have assembled 3 Ar15s over the past 5 years and have had a hard time installing the handguards even when using a handguard removal tool. I tried to put new handguards on my latest AR15 and I could hardly get them on to go on. Compared them to an 20 year old set that I could install without using the  handguard removal tool and it was about 1/4 -1/3 inchs longer. Took a hacksaw and cut it off at the lip and it work just fine. So the question is :are handguards getting longer or is something else going on?

I haven't had the problems with my newer ones that you're talking about. I have access to 3 20" uppers that have been made in the past 5 years and they all are fine.

The hanguards on my 20" Bushy come off without tools and go back on easily. The handguards on my Colt 6920 are a real bugger to get on and off.
