When buying a used AR how do you try to establish a fair price? For instance a friend of mine has a nice Bushmaster 16" M4gery. He started out asking what he gave $1100.00. I said to much, sorry I can shop around and buy a new one cheaper off the EE. Then he pulled out the "BLUE BOOK Of GUN VALUES". Is this a good way to judge the "fair market value"?

Just buy from someone else. Anybody trying to sell a used gun for $200 more than it cost new is not a friend of yours.

Personally I don't think so... There are too many varialbles that determine a firearms value.  Couple of months back, you could probably have put up a Colt M-4gery for 2 grand, and someone would buy it.

Too much fluctuating, especially in the market for these types of guns.  Like you said, Aimsurplus sells that same Bushy new for about $800 depending on A-2 or A-3.  Offer him $650 for the used Bushy, and see what he says....That gives you a little room to go up if you really want it....

A Colt is not an M4gery But yeah 6920's were up around 2 grand a few months ago. Now they are $1200. When I bought my Bushy M4gery a few months agao it was $950. Now they are like $100 less. These are crazy times for the AR. Never has there been so much demand so price fluctuate like crazy. Your best source for pricing info..... RIGHT HERE!!!

I ended up offering him $850.00 still no sell. I am not going to go any higher. I may get my FFL to order one or just stick with my "preban"haha  Colt Sporter 20".  Thanks for the advise!
