I recently put a 4 position collapsible stock on my 16 inch Olympic Arms AR.  Before I did this, the rear breakdown pin was easy to disengage...I could do it with my finger.  After I installed the collapsible stock, the pin has been really hard to disengage.  I have to use a small hammer and a screwdriver with a piece of cloth on the end of it to tap it out and also back in.  Even with the upper receiver apart from the lower, the pin acts like it is jammed in the open postion and requires a tap to go back in.  Could the installation of the new stock have caused this, or maybe the small ball bearing inside the pin assembly is damaged.  Any opinions on how to fix this?  Any help is appreciated, thanks!

If all you did was swap stocks, then it just about has to be the spring and detent assembly for the takedown pin, as it was exposed when you took the old stock off.

Changing the stock cant do that. Just take the upper off and oil the pins real good and knock them in and out several times. They should loosen back up.
I stand corrected

I have oiled them up pretty good, and it didn't seem to help much.  How would I go about taking the pin completely out of the receiver?  Thanks.

The pin might fall out.  inverted...

???

Ummm, the detent and spring practically fall out under their own weight when you take the stock off.  If you have just changed stocks, then surely you noticed this?

If you did not pay attention to this, then improper reassembly is likely the reason for your problem.  The takedown pin detent should be sliding freely in its hole in the back of the receiver, followed by the detent spring.  The metal plate that is trapped between the receiver and the stock nut should hold the spring in its hole.

Yes I have noticed that the detent and spring fall out on their own...I suppose that there could be a problem with the reassembly of the detent and spring.  I will have to check that out tomorrow.  This is my first AR and I am just beginning to learn the inner workings...it has become my favorite rifle!  I will check it out and let you guys know what I find...thanks.

when I  switched my old stock to a new one I messed up the takedown spring and I had to get another one.  After I installed the new spring it was almost impossible for me to push out the takedown pin,  The way I fixed it was to take out the spring and cut off a couple of coils, it now works perfect with the right amount of tension.

Are you using an Accu-wedge, by chance?

No, I'm not using an accu-wedge...I need to pull off the stock and check out the spring...I am willing to bet that it's the problem.  Thanks.
