Hi, new to these forums. I have not used a rifle since I got out of the Army in '93 so I am a bit behind the times here. I would like to get peoples opinions on the best current manufacturer of match grade AR-15's. It does not need to be fancy, just field ready and reliable.

For a factory-complete rifle, I'd probably recommend a Colt or Bushmaster.

Be glad you haven't been flamed to hell and back for asking this question again. Bushy if you want a great reliable rifle. Colt if you want the same for too much money Also Rock River arms is building a heck of a rifle as well.

RRA would be my pick!

I once made the mistake of starting a thread about which manufacture is best, lol. I know never to do that again! I only have Colt, but mine have been functioning well for many years.

do you plan to shoot matches with it?

RRA would be my pick. I have built 3 with all RRA parts. For fit finish and the $$$ I am very happy.

Hey thanks for the input. It looks like Bushmaster sounds like the kind of weapon I enjoy, not too pricey but will get the job done.

No I do not intend to shoot matches Tweak, just want something that will shoot accurately with good consistency. I have always been partial to Rugers (Super Blackhawk was my first) as far as handguns go. I echo YELLOWV's sentiment that you can pay a lot more for the same thing a lot of times but why? :)

Go and try a few searches, Honestly this form is heavy with Jerks who look for newbe questions to ridicule.
Honestly any big name company will make a good AR. The diffrences are going to be in Price and cust serv. Good Luck. Jim

i think the reason that people like to pay the extra cash for Colt's is because 1. the military uses them, 2. Colt is slightly rarer than most on account of them not selling direct to civilians, and 3. just because it is a Colt which is supposedly the best AR15 company. anyways i dont actually know which company would be the best because i build my AR from a stripped lower. but i think if i were to pic one, i'd go with either Rock River or CMMG. Rock River if you're looking for a 20" rifle, and CMMG if you're looking for a carbine.

P.S. welcome aboard!

Armalite,Bushmaster,Colt,RRA.Colt and Bushy have 4150 steel barrels but evevn 4140 is fine and no big difference if chrome lined although 4150 has a higher heat tolerance.Colt is most expensive and RRA probably the least. All cane be had in carbine or rifle configuratiuons.I have heard some Colt full size rifles dont come with all chromed chamber and bores except the LE models and M4 type civie model M4 marked rifle.Colt has the best testing of parts and my only issue with Bushy is the unparkerized part of the barrel under the FSB and no M4 handguards or H buffers standard on their carbines.Any model chrome lined will serve you well for your needs.

Thank you again for the replies. I appreciate the greater depth. I will have to look into each of the companies suggested. If Colt does not sell to the general pubic (as I found out yesterday by going to their site after reading replies) were is the best place to look for them? I defiantly like the idea of chrome linings.

Best pace to find the best (Colt) is here on the "EE", otherwise there is always Specialized Armament Warehouse.

My reason reason for preferring Colt is simple- things are a lot more pleasing when they just work.  Your chances of that happening skyrocket if there's a rampant Colt on the lower.

YMMV- mine doesn't!

The problem is with your question, you say ready and reliable then you say Match Grade, the two do not go hand in hand, for long range CMP match you will need one gun, for close range, IPSC match you will need another, to shoot high power you will need yet another.

Match Grade, what does that mean to you.  To a match shooter it means no chrome lined bore,
