here is what one looks like

it consists of a body, made out of aluminum or steel, a spring, teh sear (that little flapper peice) and a roll pin or solid pin to hold it all together.

in conjunction with a M16 fire control group (trigger, hammer, selector, disconnector and bolt carrier) it will make an AR work as a fully functional select fire weapon. the purpose of the DIAS is basically to simulate the standard autosear, but without having to machine the lower to M16 spec. the standard autosear and the DIAS are timing devices. They release the hammer at the proper time for reliable and safe full auto. Alot of times the DIAS's need some tinkering to time the rifle properly.

but look at it, can you believe that they cost $10K?

hooray for freedom

I agree with the "Can you believe" thing. When I saw it I was like Jesus, I could make that in 2 hours with a chunk of metal and a file!
Imagine, if I knew then what I knew now I'd be retired from the money I made selling RDIAS I had made prior to 86.

So can you take an RDIAS and put it in a brand new M4gery? which would allow you to have a full auto weapon that wouldn't be 20 years old or more?

now if i only had an extra 10 grand............

You also have to have all of the M16 fire control parts. That always scared me as I was under the impression that solid M16 parts minus the auto sear could get you charged with intent. Sure you got the sear, but it could complicate things when shooting with out it. I'd rather just buy a registered M16 lower and have seperate uppers.

So just take your new M4gery (or whatever your preference is) and put it on the registered lower? I guess the upper is what takes most of the abuse, anyway....or am I wrong thinking that?

Your good to go if you have the M16 bolt in your standard upper IIRC. Just swap the upper over to the M16 lower and have fun.

No, the lower is not registered, the autosear is registered.  You put the autosear into the lower and close the upper.  Other select fire componets must be in the gun and the autosear must be timed.

To me, its the size that gets me.  I didnt realize they were so damn small.  I would probably lose the thing if I owned one.

Damn '86 MG ban.

These things would be going for $150-$200 if it weren't for that damn ban

OK my price is off, forgive me, I was a month old when the ban passed

Whole bag of them? If he still had them, he'd be able to retire a wealthy man!
