OK, I'm stoopid!!

Well, the situation.......I purchased some Bowflage cause I wanted to play with a camo AR.  I had a nice desert camo job on, looked pretty good actually.  I kept it for a couple of months and had a couple of pretty intense range sessions, like where the paint on the barrel changed color and was smoking.  I noticed that the bowflage was coming off on everything.......gunsafe, other guns, case, me, etc, so I decided to remove it.   Well, 3 cans of brake cleaner got it off everything except the barrel where it got SOOOO hot.   Now, in the past 4-5 mo I have tried more brake cleaner, carb cleaner, nail polish remover, Hoppes, CLP, and probably an hour of elbow grease.   Still to no avail.

What can I go to that will not remove the blueing?  It is my beater gun, but I still would like to remove the burnt sand barrel from the black AR.  Would paint thinner do?  I have some methylene chloride, but I am afraid it would de-blue the bbl.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
