I don't see allot of reference to it, I have been using IMR 4895 in .223 with good results, I am looking for a good clean ball powder for 55 grain loads. Any good loads would also be appriciated.

Thank you, I guess this makes me the dumbass, I looked for reloading and could not find it, I thought there had to be one, or everyone makes allot more $ than I do, to be able to shoot all this great ammo referred to in here.

Lake City cases, Win small rifle primers, 55 gr fmj Sierras, loaded with 26.0 gr AA2230C.  This is a max load and is very close to M193.

You can get AA2230C from www.natchezss.com, Powder Valley, and other places.  The price is excellent!

In commercial powders I have also used Win 748, BL-C2, and H335.

You can get military pulldown and new powder from a number of places, I like Jeff Bartlett, www.gibrass.com.  Also www.iidbs.com/hitech

WC844 is the same as H335, and is the powder used in M193 and M855.

WC846 is the same as BL-C2, and is used in 7.62 NATO.

Both powders can be used in either 5.56 or 7.62, refer to the charts.  These powders, WC844 and WC846, are actually two different lots of what was supposed to be the same powder.  They are almost the same, but 846 is slightly slower.

AA2230C, Win 748, BL-C2, and H335 all meter through my Dillon powder measure very consistently.

Buyin in bulk and when there are deals is the only way to go. Reloading is good if ya want a couple hundred precise rounds for match shooting or hunting, for what I do, its not practical to reload.

I shoot something like 24 grains of H335 with 55 grain bullets... have to look up the load but its in that area.  It shoots pretty good... dont have a tack driving rifle... all I know is its good 'nuff.

748 gives you some better speeds with the lighter bullets, and is pretty accurate.  Im looking to get some once I burn up my 40 grain bullets and H335 powder.

H335 is a good standby for .223 in general, its very good on the lighter bullets.  For 55 grains tho, I think 748 would work a little better.

I've been using 24.5 gr of AA2230C powder with a 55 gr SP bullet for a while now, extremely accurate and very cheap to load.  The AA2230C is a military ball powder that's hard to beat for accuracy and price, I get mine from Powder Valley.

Will you please tell what load (IMR 4895) you had good results with? I've got quite a bit of this powder
sitting around and was wondering if it was of any use to load 55gr in .223. I've looked around, but
haven't seen any loadings with this powder that are worthwhile.
Thanks

I load 27.0 gr IMR4895  with a 50 gr Speer TNT at 2.270" for my bolt gun, same load at 2.245" for AR, I use Remington Brass (great deal from Brassman) and CCI small rifle standard primers. These have shot under 1" in a 14.5 Bushmaster, and 16" Delton. This is a max load, it has not shown pressure signs in anything but I would work up to it in your gun. The TNT is a great bullet but fragile buy 100 to start with because they will not work in all guns. You know they work if they hit the target if they don't work they come apart in the air. Thay are devistating on small varmints (red mist).

.
Check Out the Sierra Loading Manual for .223

They've got one .223 section for bolt-actions and another .223 section just for AR-15's that may give you some ideas.

I've also used 4895 in the past good results.

H335 seems to be a really popular powder also.

Ramshot X-terminator powder is a clean burning easy metering ball powder that has given me good results on the ligher 52g, 55g, 60g bullets.
