Well I have been reading and understand what I have to do as far as the paper work. I am just wondering once and if my paper work would approved how hard it is to build one. Never done a rifle build before. I am good at taking em apart and putting them back together correctly, but there would be more to this I am certain. What really makes me think is the barrel. Attaching it to the receiver correctly. I am guessing there is more to it than just screwing it in, right? The gas tube has me wondering too. I feel like I can handle evrything else, but I am really wondering about the barrel. Can someone shed some light on a build for me. Like whats involved, especially with the barrel to receiver and gas system. Thanks! |

I'm new too - currently working on my first three builds (I've got 3 lower receivers; why not three guns??). However, I do know that the the barrel/ receiver question is a no-brainer - the barrel notches into the receiver and is tightened down by the barrel nut. You couldn't screw it up if you tried. I haven't got there yet, but I believe the gas tube install is equally straigtforward, but I'll leave this one for someone more experienced to confirm or clarify. Have fun!!

WHITE_WOLFE, once your approved paperwork comes back, you have two choices: you can either swap barrels or uppers. Changing barrels really isn't difficult, and can be done rather quickly if you have an armorer's wrench and action block. In simple terms you pull the gas tube, unscrew the barrel nut, and remove the barrel. Then you push the new barrel into the receiver, tighten the barrel nut, and replace the gas tube. It involves a little more detail, and I'll be glad to walk you through it later if you decide to go that route. Heck, I have all the tools if you want to drive the 75 miles or so from your county to mine. |
| Thanks for all the info and offering to help me. I have the armorer's wrench, but not the action block. I think I will just purchase one. I think there only about 40 bucks or so. I did go to the build section and have been looking and reading. I not sure exactly what I will do yet. I know the paper work is first. Fun fun waiting game from what I have heard. |

besides the state law, also check your local community law........some of them may have ordinances against owning a NFA weapon, a quick trip to your local library and checking the codified ordinances would be a good thing to do the biggest problem some folks have is getting the CLEO (chief of police, sheriff) signing off on NFA forms, even though there is no laws against it. good luck |
| Having the proper tools to do barrel/upper receiver work is crucial for proper alignment and ease-of-assembly. I am sure there are many folks who can do it with basic tools, but having a receiver block, armorer's wrench, mounted bench vise, and a set of good punches is a "must" IMHO. As far as the actual work - it isn't difficult, but these tools sure would make life ALOT easier. |
I'd add a set of aluminum vise barrel jaws to that list of tools. |

Once again, my state sucks. |
