I just want to make sure that the charging handle does not move during firing of my SP1 carbine.  From everything I've seen it wont move unless unlocked and pulled back by the operator but I am double checking to save myself a bloody nose. This is the first one I've owned and have yet to fire it.

When properly forward and locked into place, the charging handle does not move.

I know it was a dumb question but rather be safe than sorry.

My friendly advise it get hold of a tech manual and read it from front to back before operating that rifle.  Then set it down and ponder what it said.  Then read it from front to back once again.  Then handle the weapon.

Dont have a manual yet but have field stripped and cleaning rifle using the online instructions provided on this forum.  I am getting the sense that people feel that this rifle is too complicated for me.  As I stated, I was sure about the charging handle but wanted to verify.  This is not my first assault weapon and I am quite comfortable to shoot it.  If the army can teach some cornfed putz or some "go to jail or go to the army" guy how to use one, it cant be too hard right?

It isn't hard.  Make sure that the weapon is pointed in a safe direction, the switch is on "fire" and there is a round in the chamber and you should be OK.  You're also gonna want to make sure that your bolt is assembled properly and there is nothing in the barrel or gas tube.

The AR is nice, because there are no external moving parts to shatter your face (i.e. AK).

We get all kinds here.  You have to fail safe to the lowest common denominator.  Even with that, reading the TM won't hurt, it will only help answer all the questions you will have about this rifle.  I still refer to mine every now and then for tidbits of info.

I was taught, or trained I should say, to put the tip of my nose on the charging handle.  Helps keep a consistant sight picture.  Do they still teach it that way?  I see pics of people with some odd holds, cheek/stock weld wayyy back, like they are leaning away from the weapon, scared of it.

Anyway... no, it doesn't move.

Cornfed putz?

So we cornfed morons don't know how to operate anything associated to the military w/o going into the Army?

I'd say get a manual, like mongo001 said. Lots of good info in there.

You guys are mean telling him the charging handle isn't gonna move...  He'll probably put his nose against the charging handle when he shoots it.

Why dont you people get over your over exagerated egos due to your inherent lack of balls and just answer the question at hand.  Dont worry about the manual or anything but the question at hand.  Is that too much to ask?  Maybe since your cornfed you just dont get it.

Leave your ego at the keyboard on your end, we aren't interested.  I understand that you can talk different because you are online, but you aren't impressing anyone with your ignorance.

I think that hot New Mexico air has gone to your head.

And, BTW, I don't have an over exaggerated ego, I just don't like it when someone insults the way I have been raised.

The very first reply to your question....

Everyone has to start somewhere, don't be afraid to ask questions.  It is, however, a very basic question.  I think most people who are a little more familiar with the weapon realize just how basic a question it is.  It would probably behoove you to familarize yourself a little more before you start shooting, even if you are familiar with other weapons.

But then again, it doesn't make much difference to me.  I doubt I will get struck by an errant bullet from NM here in the cornfields of IN.

added: can I say familiar a few more times?

You sure know how to piss people off don't you?  Here's a little *HINT* from the Technical Manual on operating in Human Society:

*When a group of people have information that might be of value to you, and you approach them to ask a question, don't repeatedly insult them.  Especially if they're armed and you're asking firearms questions*

I hope you're only like this on the internet - if you said some of that shit at any of the local gun ranges around here you'd probably wind up with a bloody nose at the least.

I still find it amazing how this post turned out.  If people weren't such idiots, it would have been a 2 or 3 reply post.  That's all I require.  That fact that I said cornfed in no way should have insulted someone's upbringing.  You people are itching for controversy and pointless banter.  The word cornfed represents someone who cant spell, read or write in the context of my post.  There are perhaps other ways to put that but who cares?  Thats wasnt the point.  You people completely take things out of context and use them to prove some stupid point.  Of all the crap that you posted in response to my posts, what point have you proven?  I guess people from the midwest feel that cornfed is meant to be a good thing?  Be real men and try some New Mexico green chile.  You're milkly white assholes would light up like a match.  Then, Id stick

I guess I am a southerner with a stupid accent.
But I am smart enough to know just by looking at the
charging handle that it will not move.
Even did the first time I saw an AR.

After all it is not attached to the bolt carrier, so how could it ?
