I have a DPMS that upon dumping the mag the bolt holds back as advertised, but when I try to insert a fresh one the slightest tap to the lower causes the bolt to release.Any help would be great.

the same thing happens to mine, although mine barely ever holds open at all and when it does, it's usually how you describe. maybe the bolt catch button is too fat or  tight and the follower only hold it up a little bit or maybe the spring on the bolt catch isn't strong enough...maybe get a new bolt catch button or spring? that's probably what i'll do...

When the upper is off and no mag in well, is the bolt catch free to move?
When the upper is off with a mag in the well, does the bolt catch move all the way up?
What about the bottom of the bolt, does it look in spec?

just a couple of things to look at

Well,I know they probably aren't the best but they are the gray ones cost 18 dollars made in england, can't remember name. They have always fed well. Also it does with the DPMS polymer mags to.

Based on my own experience, and notes I've read from others on the site, I've come to the conclusion that DPMS has put some really lousy bolt hold open pieces on many of their products.  The one that came on my complete lower assy was so out of spec that it gouged the side of the upper the first time I assembled it, and I've seen notes from others describing the type of problem you've had.  In some cases, the hold open wouldn't even operate to hold the bolt aftert the last round.

So my advice is, replace the durn thing with a Bushmaster part.  that's what I did

I have had this problem with some of my ENGLAND mags. Went back to USGI and Colt mags, and the problem went away. Weak springs in the ENGLAND mags IMO.

Stick to Colt/USGI mags and I bet your problem goes away.

At least start there, it is the cheapest fix...

Most FTF and FTE are caused by the magazines.
