BM V-match barrel (24 inches 1/9 twist, chrome lined). With Hornady's varmint loads 55 gr V-Max, I will consistanly get dime sized groups at 100 yard. The scope is a Leupold MR/T (3x9), which is not a real good scope for precision shooting. I can consistantly kill oranges at 300 yards. hippie.gif

I don't think a 1/9 will stablize a 75 grain bullet.

I don't think a 1/9 will stablize a 75 grain bullet.

Generally not, but there are exceptions to every rule, the only way to find out for sure is to try it.

I have a Colt HBAR 16" with Jewell trigger and a 2.5-8 Leupold scope and a Houge Free float handguard. My best 3 shot group with 26.5 grains of Benchmark powder, Fed 205 match primers, Winchester cases and a 50 grain Nosler Ballistic tip bullet was .233, maybe a fluke but it shoots  3/8" groups often enough. Oh and it's a 1 in 9 twist. I had a Bushy V-match in the same configuration that would do 1/2" or so with the same ammo. I have a bushy lightweight with an Eo-tech but it's too fun to shoot to get serious and scope it, I might be dissappointed.

Sorry about that the 75 grain was in Hornady TAP FPD. Thought about stabilization problem but the shop that I go to got a variety of the new TAP stuff in last week had been shooting the 55grain v-max and picked up some of the 55grain TAP, the owner told me to try the 75grain hollow point also so I said why not? Went to the range to try all three 55grn v-max & TAP were the same (of course) the 75grn ended up 2" lower on the page but averaged a little better than the 55's. Thats the good thing about 1/9 you can select a broad range of ammo and shoot most of them well. Had my doubts about the 75grn caus it is on the upper end of the spectrum, but it still worked really well. Give it a shot some time who knows? Damn have

1.5" with a 16" Chrome lined, 1/9, BM Dissy.  Iron sights at 100 meters, 69gn Sierra HPBT loaded with 24.5gns of 2230.  This load shot about 1.5" higher than 55gn Winchester stuff.
btw the load data is from memory.  I'm at work, but I'll ck later.

The Hornady bullet boxes say that the 75 grain A-Max bullet will work in the 1x9" twist and the Hornady 75 grain HPBT Match  is shorter than the A-Max so it will work also.  My shooting buddy shoots both in his 1x9" and they work fine.  I don't know about the Sierra 77 grainers but the 80's definitely won't work in a 1x9".
